Main opposition continues with House obstruction

Kathmandu, Dec 29: The main opposition CPN (UML) and other political parties in the opposition did not let the House resume its proceedings today, too, citing their protest over the constitution amendment proposal the government had registered in the Legislature-Parliament on November 29.

With the commencement of the today’s House session, UML’s lawmaker Baijanath Chaudhary termed the constitution amendment proposal that was said to be for the fresh demarcation of boundary of the Province No 5 was against the people’s sentiments.

Stating that even lawmakers from the ruling parties are against the proposal, he called on the government to withdraw it. The proposal to split the province is meant for achieving a different goal. He said the party won’t let the House resume its activities until the proposal is taken back.

Other opposition lawmakers including of the CPN (ML) and Rastriya Janamorcha stood up from their respective seats as a gesture of their protest over the bill, refusing to the Speaker’s call to take seats and thus compelling her to announce the adjournment of the House session. The House meeting has been rescheduled for 1 pm, Monday, January 2. RSS
